Open Door Offshore Areas in South West Greenland

Pursuant to sections 16, 22 and 23(4) of Greenland Parliament Act no. 7 of 7 December 2009 on mineral resources and mineral resource activities, as amended by Greenland Parliament Act no. 26 of 18 December 2012 and Greenland Parliament Act no. 6 of 8 June 2014, ("Mineral Resources Act"), the Government of Greenland hereby announces an Open Door Procedure for application for and granting of exclusive licences for exploration for and exploitation of hydrocarbons in offshore areas in South West Greenland.

The Open Door Procedure will be open for submission to the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources of licence applications from 1 September 2014 at 9:00 local time in Nuuk, Greenland.

Applications will generally be considered in the order in which they are registered by the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources as received with their registered dates of application. However, all applications submitted to the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources no later than 28 November 2014 at 16:00 local time in Nuuk, Greenland, will generally be registered by the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources as received on 28 November 2014. If several applications are registered with the same day as their registered dates of application, the said applications will be subject to competition.

The Open Door Procedure will be open for applications until the Greenland Government decides to close the procedure and announces the closing with an expected notice of at least 90 days.

UPDATE: New opening for applications: 12 October 2016

Please note that an amendment to the procedure has been published by the Greenland Government on the 11th of July 2016. It follows from the Mineral Resources Act section 23 " the Greenland Government publishes a notice on the open door procedure on the Greenland Government’s website and in another manner. Changes in the open door procedure will be published in the same manner. Applications for licences under the open door procedure can be submitted 90 days after the publication of the notice at the earliest."
